Description | |
In this session, participants explore how to effectively model and teach word problems by using math drawings. Participants will also analyze and practice teaching sequences from the curriculum that move students toward solving increasingly complex problems, including multi-step problems.
In this session, participants will undertake the following:
- gain understanding of and skill with decoding part-whole relationships in varied word problem situations;
- gain understanding of and skill with different modes of delivery of word problem instruction when implementing the Read-Draw-Write (RDW) process;
- learn to effectively model addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division single- and multi-step word problems with whole numbers and fractions using concrete, pictorial, and symbolic representations;
- recognize a path for moving students toward using models that are efficient and generalizable; and
- analyze and practice teaching sequences from the curriculum that move students toward solving increasingly complex problems, including multi-step problems.
Greatminds is predicting all trainings will be offered via Zoom this summer but we will also be on the schedule for in-person if circumstances change. |
