DescriptionClose reading is thoughtful, critical analysis of a text that focuses on significant details or patterns to develop a deep understanding of the text's form, craft, and meanings. It is an essential foundation of writing a text dependent analysis (TDA) and can be used in any content area. The close reading instructional routine exposes small or large groups of students to complex text that will stretch their thinking and reading skills.
