5-12 Grade Teachers and Administrators: Youth Mental Health First Aid- Completion of this workshop fulfills the required Nebraska Suicide Prevention training for the 2019-2020 school year.
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.  This 8 hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:
-Assess for risk of suicide or harm
-Listen non-judgmentally
-Give reassurance and information
-Encourage appropriate professional help
-Encourage self-help and other support strategies

K-4 Grade Teachers:  Trauma Informed Care & Self-Care
Trauma-informed care is an approach to engaging people with histories of trauma that recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma has played in their lives. One of the key components of building organizational capacity for trauma-informed care is professional education and development. Staff need education about how trauma affects consumers seeking services, what trauma informed care is, how to create safe environments for persons served, and ways to avoid re-traumatizing practices.

Day 2: August 7, 2019  Cultivating Student Success Breakout Sessions & Collaboration
Administrators and teachers will have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choice in the areas of Well Rounded Educational Opportunities, Providing for Safe and Healthy Students and Effective Use of Technology. Participants will attend four breakout sessions and have the opportunity to collaborate with grade level/content area peers to discuss implementation of strategies/ideas learned.
