DescriptionKey instructional shifts in the 2014 English Language Arts standards places an emphasis on instructional that allows students to:
    1.  Develop foundational reading skills in literary and information text
    2.  Find and use text evidence to support analysis and reflection in reading, writing, and discussion tasks,
    3.  Conduct and publish research using multiple credible sources.
This workshop will feature strategies and resources to help teachers meet these goals with students. Attendees will….
    ...experience the close reading process with a focus on locating text evidence.
    ....engage in writing tasks that require citation of evidence, explanation, and elaboration.
    ….explore resources related to academic writing and resource papers.
    ….discover writing scaffolds to model and build effective writing skills.
    ...explore multiple modes of academic writing. (Gallagher)
Attendees are encouraged to attend the follow up Academic Writing Analytical Scoring workshop hosted December 13. During this workshop, student papers are scored to gather baseline data about strengths and areas for growth. This information can be used to guide instruction through spring testing.
