DescriptionThe mathematics classroom is driven by the interaction of three components: teaching, curriculum, and assessment. In this workshop, we will examine the roles of curriculum (including choices a school or teacher makes in terms of scope of content, sequencing of topics, and lesson choices) and assessment (how a teacher measures student progress and uses it for planning) and how decisions on these components affect the teaching and learning process.  Examples will include discussion of how tools and technology can be used effectively in mathematics lessons and how choices made by educators can affect access and equity in the secondary mathematics classroom.
This workshop will be lead by Daniel Brahier Professor of Mathematics Education at the School of Teaching and Learning at Bowling Green State University and still teaches 8th grade algebra. He is the one of the authors of Principles to Action: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All that was released by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
