Description | | The Academic Literacy Project Grades 4-12 for Year 2
Participants is a two-part series.
The
first training will be facilitated by Dr. Anita Archer. The focus will be on adolescent writing and
text dependent analysis strategies. Dr.
Archer will present strategies that encourage teachers to implement shorter and
more frequent writing opportunities for students in all content areas.
The presentation will also focus on providing opportunities to respond to text
through writing as well as discussion.
Dr. Archer will model strategies and share
examples of how teachers and schools across the country are increasing student achievement
through writing. Participants will have the opportunity to experience and
practice the strategies throughout the training.
Adolescent Literacy Project goals
are to become familiar with and implement research-based literacy strategies
that will increase student achievement for adolescent learners. The 2-day training will be based on the
following research-based recommendations:
- Provide explicit vocabulary instruction
- Provide direct and explicit comprehension strategy instruction
- Provide opportunities for extended discussion of text meaning and interpretation
- Increase student motivation and engagement in literacy learning |
