Description

The New Teacher Academy is designed to provide support, instruction and collaboration for first and second year teachers.  All new teachers will receive the Beginning Teacher’s Field Guide by Tina Boogren that acknowledges the personal side of teaching. It provides pertinent advice based on the time of year and empathetic new teacher support. The Academy will introduce the phases of the first year of teacher, targeted Marzano strategies and teaching tips that will be most impactful for first year teachers, as well as self-care strategies to support teachers throughout the year.

Day 1: Mentors will be asked to join this day. Topics will include an introduction to phases of the first-year of teaching and self-care, time to plan with mentors, and a presentation from KSB law.
Day 2: We’ll address the anticipation and survival phases of the first year of teaching and classroom strategies that most impactful during those phases. Then, participants will get to select a breakout session and we’ll end the day with a panel of experienced educators who will share their stories and answer questions.
Day 3: The most difficult phase, the disillusionment phase, starts around this time. We’ll talk about classroom strategies and self-care to support this stage. There will also be sessions on formative assessment, relationship building, and working with students that qualify for Special Education and/or English learner services.
Day 4: The final two phases, Rejuvenation and Reflections phases, will be covered along with break out choices.
