Description | | Grand Island Public Schools/Central Nebraska Support Services Program
Special Education Supervisor, Penny Brown, will present training on the use of
guiding documents for identifying students with a Speech/Language Impairment
in the area of language. The "Language Verification Matrix” and
"Language Verification Checklist" have been developed and implemented
over the past five years by GIPS/CNSSP SLPs with SPED administration approval.
This process was designed to help SLPs steer
away from using the severe discrepancy model for making entitlement decisions. This
training will emphasize use of "multiple data
sources" and how the information obtained fits
into the "three-part eligibility requirement" set forth in the
Nebraska verification guidelines Technical Assistance document for conducting
comprehensive evaluations. NSLHA’s Schools Committee is in the process of
adopting use of either the “Speech/Language
Impairment - Language Verification Matrix” or the “Speech/Language
Impairment - Language Verification Checklist” as a recommended best practice.
NOTE: This presentation
will be offered again in the morning on April 22, 2019 at ESU 3 in Omaha. Watch
for details. The April 22 session will be recorded and made available online
for later viewing. |
