This registration is for a three day series called Navigating the 2021 Shifts in Reading and Writing. Participants will explore and engage in the four shifts in the 2021 Nebraska ELA Standards. We will also design and curate text sets to boost background knowledge. A special focus on Scarborough’s Rope and the Science of Reading will prepare K-12 teachers to examine the revised standards in depth and create activities for their own classroom instruction. Participants will walk away with a compendium of lessons based on the three days of training compiled from the submissions of others in the class.
The total three-day series will focus on:
*The new shifts to the 2021 ELA standards for K-12 teachers
*High quality research demonstrating effective literacy instruction
*Connections to the Science of Reading for all grade levels
*Best practices in K-12 literacy instruction, including text sets
*How to apply knowledge from these days of training to your current classroom
Additionally, this workshop is offered as a two-credit course through Hastings College.
