Description | | Matt McNiff, Ph.D., Behavioral Consultant, ESU 5
Director of Special Education will Present:
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is often viewed as a time
intensive and intimidating process. The
function of the behavior for children is often the focus of many conversations
surrounding the behavior of children and for good reason. The process is often made more difficult than
it has to be and can be done simply while maximizing the amount of time to
devoted to the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). After identifying the function, the real work
begins by creating a behavior plan that addresses the student’s need from all
angles. This workshop will demonstrate
easy ways to determine function of the behavior, easy techniques for data
collection, and isolate the major components of the behavior intervention plan. The attendee will walk away with templates
that are easy to use so that everyone on the team knows exactly what to do and
the plan can be implemented with fidelity.
Topics will include function determination, data collection methods,
defining the behavior, how to identify an appropriate replacement behavior,
lesson planning for the replacement behavior, prevention strategies focusing on
curricular, environmental, and teacher modifications, reinforcement systems,
planning for failure, how to set up a systematic data collection system, and
plan evaluation.
Teams are encouraged to bring data to develop behavior plans for
students in real time with feedback from the presenter. Attendees will have access to templates and
examples to use in their district. |
