DescriptionThe Special Education Quarterly Meeting for February 2 will feature a full day training entitled Building Blocks of the Brain:  Supporting the Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Health of Young Learners. This training, presented by Dan St. Romain, a national consultant, will focus on building positive social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes for young children. If we want children to develop into healthy well-adjusted individuals, it is important we know the various stages through which they progress and how best to support them throughout their developmental journey.  In this training, we will examine these factors and discuss best practices as a result.

ESU 10’s Special Education Department, the Central Region Early Learning Connection Partnership, and Planning Region Team 10 Early Development Network are financially sponsoring the training. This professional learning opportunity is also part of ESU 10’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) initiative.

Dan St. Romain is a national independent educational consultant who provides staff development and consultative services to educators working with students at all developmental levels. Dan is passionate about helping educators shift their perspective on discipline, understanding the best ways to provide support given the challenges posed in today’s classroom.

After receiving his Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Dan worked in both private residential and public school settings, as well as at the Region 20 Education Service Center in San Antonio, Texas.  His work as a self-contained behavior unit teacher, Educational Diagnostician, and Director of a Learning Resource Center has afforded him experience at all levels, in both general and special education settings.  Currently, Dan is a behavior consultant for the Alamo Heights Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, working directly with students, while also providing support to the staff, at large.

Dan’s overwhelming strength is his skill as a presenter.  Although his sessions are exceedingly interactive, his greatest asset lies in his ability to offer participants rich insight into the connectedness between educational practices and student behavior.  Dan spends a great deal of time presenting his body of work on Positive Behavior Principles.  He is also frequently requested to work with early childhood educators on specific ways teach social skills as the primary means to positively shape student behavior.
