| Description | | Crafting the Global Lens: Bringing the World to the Nebraska Classroom
What shapes the ways in which we view the larger world? How does our role as educators shape the worldviews of the students we teach? The world of the twenty-first century is a world of greater connectedness and collaboration then at any other time in human history. How do we prepare the students of Nebraska for such a world? How can we prepare ourselves as educators to provide rich, immersive learning opportunities for our students that allow them to foster curiosity, appreciation, and a sincere desire to make a positive global impact?
This workshop seeks to provide ideas, discussions, resources, and strategies for developing a strong connection between the Nebraska classroom and the world outside its doorway. Both current and pre-service educators will explore the potential for shaping their own global lens and enriching the global perspectives of their students.
The workshop is particularly relevant to those teaching social studies, languages, and language arts from grades 6-12. It will include sessions on fostering international understanding in Nebraska schools, a framework for understanding dimensions of culture, a Nebraska Global Workplace panel representing industry, higher education, agriculture, and civic engagement with an international focus, a session on teacher travel and study grant opportunities, harnessing technology to bring the world into the classroom, global education teaching strategies, and more. This workshop is part of a series offered this fall (in Lincoln, Kearney, and Omaha) that have been developed by a small committee of high school and university global educators through the support and in collaboration with the Malaika Foundation, as well as funded through the generosity of Hunanities Nebraska and Peter Peterson.
